A few years ago, I had read an interview with Brigitte Macron, the wife of French President Emmanuel Macron, in Paris Match. She had told in the interview about their daily life with Emmanuel Macron, their routines and their relationship. You probably know about the extraordinary romantic story of Brigitte and Emmanuel Macron. Brigitte, who comes from Trogneux family, renowned chocolatiers with a chocolate factory in the Northern French town of Amiens, was a high school French literature and Latin teacher. She was a drama coach at the private school in Amiens when she met 15-year-old Macron who acted in her theatre pieces. They kept in touch after Macron went to Paris to complete his studies and their association led to a romance that lead Brigitte to divorce her husband, banker Andre-Louis Auziere – the father of her three children. The brand is renowned for its chocolates and macarons.)
Macron had told his future wife around the age of 17 when he was studying in Paris: “I will be back for you. Whatever you do, I will marry you.“. The couple got married in 2007, a year after Brigitte’s divorce, when she was 54 and he was 29. They moved to Paris to support Macron’s political career. Brigitte quit her job as a teacher to work as her husband’s main consultant when he became finance minister in 2014. In May 2017, after almost a decade after their marriage, Emmanuel Macron became the French President. (news.sky.com, nypost.com)

The article in Paris Match mentions the view of the close friends of the Macrons that: “The First Lady brings the President a breath of fresh air, a touch of humanity, and empathy. She constantly inquires about him, and he calls her several times a day“, and the emotional and intellectual bond between the couple – not eroded despite the years and the exercise of power…
Brigitte tells: “We’re a normal couple. … I have the influence a wife can have on her husband. … The fact that he’s president hasn’t changed anything. … When I sense he’s available, I ask questions and tell him what I think. He knows what I’m doing at all hours of the day.” (Paris Match, No: 3889)

She mentions that on weekends they go to the Lanterne where he does all his correspondence and all his calls, and they make their schedules together and negotiate, and then they go for a walk. She adds that twice a week Emmanuel does forty-five minutes of training, warm-up and boxing for core strength, saying: “Being at the Élysée Palace is a marathon.“. Brigitte Macron tells in the interview in Paris Match that the French President doesn’t like to fall asleep, and prefers micro-naps during the days. Praising her husband’s memory and intellectual capacity, she says: “I’ve had many brilliant students, none of whom had his abilities. I’ve always admired him.“.

I enjoyed reading this article and interview in Paris Match and the frank explanations of Brigitte Macron in a sincere tone. It was interesting to learn about the daily routines of the French presidential couple – popular for their incredible love story.

Brigitte says in the article: “If I have anything to say to Emmanuel, it’s never in the morning.” and tells that they are alone for the breakfast she makes for him.
We read in the interview that they eat late. Always between 10 and 11 p.m. Brigitte says, and adds: “If he has something to do, he finishes it…. We always have a very light dinner. Sometimes I cook. There are easy recipes on Marmiton. Emmanuel loves soft-boiled eggs.”
The article comments as : “Nothing could be easier, indeed… Brigitte doesn’t specify whether she butters her toast soldiers.” (Paris Match, No: 3889, November 16-22, 2023) (I took note of Marmiton here, referred by Brigitte Macron – a French cousine website (marmiton.org) with jolly practical recipes.)

Reading this interview in Paris Match also gave me a jolly and practical breakfast idea: soft-boiled eggs with buttered toast! – which the Macrons have as a light dinner, and which I have often had and enjoyed as a breakfast since I have read the interview…
Let me share the original script in French from the article in Paris Match:
“... Nous dînons très léger, toujours. Quelquefois je fais la cuisine. Il y a des recettes faciles sur Marmiton. Emmanuel adore les œufs à la coque.” Rien de plus facile en effet… Brigitte ne précise pas si elle beurre ses mouillettes.” (Paris Match, No:3889)

I didn’t used to opt for a soft-boiled egg before, but rather an egg that is neither completely hard-boiled nor soft-boiled (apricot-cooked egg in Turkish). However, I must say that a soft-boiled egg matches perfectly with a buttered toast bread, or buttered strips of toasted bread which you can dip into the soft boiled egg yolk. A piece of French cheese or any may also be added to accompany.

A jolly breakfast you must try, also easy to prepare – which the Macron couple inspired me to do so…
